Day Summary

The final day of the conference got off to a comical start as Dr. Peter Wörhle and Dr. Ronald Glauser paid homage to Nobel Biocare’s President and CEO, Heliane Canepa by having their hair color-matched to the vibrant red of Ms. Canepa’s.

Dr. Wörhle then moderated the first procedure of the day, which introduced the new Procera® Maryland Bridge. Dr. Billy Drake, creator of the bridge, lead the session with a history of bondable and cementable bridges, while Larry Holt performed the procedure.

The first surgery of the day was a complex All-on-4 restoration using Zygoma implants, with treatment planning performed in NobelGuide™. Dr. Chantal Malevez performed the surgery, meanwhile Dr. Ed Bedrossian, Dr. Filip Schutyser and Dr. Paulo Maló explained why NobelGuide™ is the perfect tool for removing the guesswork in placing all types of implants.

Dr. Dennis Rohner flew in from Hirslanden Clinic in Aarau, Switzerland to give an update on, and present a pre-taped interview with, the patient who was treated only two days earlier in the first-time live micro-vascular and bone-grafting procedure.

For a little levity, Dr. Ed McGlumphy and Dr. Ken Hebel debated the pros and cons of screw-retained versus cemented prosthetics. Dr. Peter Wörhle, still red-haired, displayed his latest way to express his skepticism their arguments.

In the afternoon, a successful press conference was held; several local television stations were on-hand to hear a stimulating presentation from Dr. Phil, clarifying that a patients’ smile is much more to them than beautiful teeth. In a special appearance for conference participants, Dr. Phil reiterated this message, and added to it, strategies for dental professionals to build better relationships with their patients.

The conference closed with Heliane Canepa thanking everyone who attended and made the event possible. Always wanting to keep us all “in a constant state of amazement,” she also promised that the conference in 2009 will be even grander.
