Day Summary
The morning started off with a rousing speech from Heliane Canepa, President and CEO of Nobel Biocare, in which she reinforced that the conference’s focus is science, education, and supporting state-of-the-art technology.
Following Ms. Canepa, the Arena Program initiated its program of live presentations with the introduction of six maxillofacial rehabilitation patients treated by the Brånemark Institute in Bauru.
Televised live from Gothenburg, Sweden, Honorary Conference Chairman, Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark presented the results of a new therapy solution for the rehabilitation of patients with deformities in the maxillofacial region. ”We have but one goal – improve the quality of life for our fellow human beings”, Professor Brånemark pointed out.
To support his work and mission further, Nobel Biocare announced its Maxillofacial Concept – to help maxillofacial surgeons and prosthodontists give smiles back to those who need them most.
The program continued with two Teeth-in-an-Hour™ surgeries planned using NobelGuide™ on two fully edentulous patients, restoring both maxillary and mandibular arches, performed simultaneously. The audience could follow the cases in parallel while the expert panel made their comments and comparisons. This was the first live surgery ever of this kind and Dr. Lesley David, Dr. John Zarb, and Dr. Peter Moy showed how beautiful, quick, and predictable the results are when using NobelGuide™.
In the afternoon, another live surgery introduced the world premiere – Curvy™ Abutment – designed in cooperation with Nobel Biocare customers to:
- stabilize soft tissue
- preserve underlying bone
