Day Summary
Today’s dramatic highlight was a live micro-vascular and bone-graft surgery. The nearly eight-hour surgery spanned the entire day of the conference and involved:
- taking a bone graft from the leg for use in rehabilitating a mandibular defect
- joining an artery and vein taken, with the bone graft, to an artery and vein in the neck
- installing a screw-retained implant-supported restoration
Keeping in line with this surgery, participants in Workshop 18: Maxillofacial treatment planning using 3D imaging software, learned:
- The amazing opportunities of 3D imaging software in the diagnostics and treatment planning of maxillofacial patients
- The application of 3D imaging software for maxillofacial treatment planning
- The benefits of 3D imaging software for different maxillofacial treatments
Another world premier today was NobelActive™ – a unique implant that will open up new avenues for experienced implantology surgeons with:
- enhanced esthetics
- soft tissue preservation
- extra-oral cementation of prosthetics
- self-drilling capability
- self-tapping capability
From Portugal we saw, live transmitted, a surgery of both upper and lower jaw, using the All-on-4 technique.
The Scientific Lounge continued to draw crowds today. World Conference participants came to search through the Nobel Biocare library of research studies and data, learn and challenge the capabilities of Nobel Biocare products, and share their ideas with scientists and researchers.
Many participants took advantage of the offer to discuss One-on-one, a patient case from their own practice, with a world-leading expert. These sessions have proven hugely popular and rewarding for both parties.

And do not miss the presentation of the studies on the NobelDirect® Implant system, by Professor van Steenberghe
