Dr. Komiyama received DDS degree in 1971, and PhDdegree from postgraduate school in 1976, from Tokyo Dental College. He was appointed lecturer in 1976 and associate professor in 1990 at Tokyo Dental College where he taught prosthodontics. Between 1980 and 1983, he was a guest researcher at Gothenburg University, Sweden. During his stay in Sweden, he was taught osseointegration implantology from experts such as Drs. Adell, Brånemark, Lekholm, et al. directly. He started the first osseointegrated implant treatment in Japan in 1983. He established the Brånemark Osseointegration Center in Tokyo, in 1990, which is opened not only domestically but also internationally as training center. He is a clinical professor at Tokyo Dental College and a visiting professor at Kanagawa Dental University. He just started the new society Pacific Osseointegration Conference in March 2007.
