Stefaan Bergé
Professor Dr. Dr. S.S. Bergé graduated from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium in 1993 where he studied Dentistry and Medicine. From 1993 until 1997, he worked as an assistant physician with Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. J. Dumbach at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Winterbergkliniken, Academic Teaching Hospital in Saarbrücken, Germany. From 1998 until 2005 he worked at the department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery (Head: Prof. Dr. Dr. R. H. Reich) at the Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Bonn, Germany as a full stafmember. From 1998 on, he was senior physician and in 2000 he did his Doctoral thesis on "The value of NMR tomography in diagnosis of the temporomandibular joint pathology" at the same University. His qualification for “Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery” followed in 2002. From 2003 he did clinical and animal experimental studies on the prenatal diagnosis and fetal surgery of orofacial clefts, which resulted in a PhD (Venia legendi - Habilitation). Presently he is University Professor and Head of the department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery of the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Prof. Dr. Dr. S.S. Bergé has published over 60 peer reviewed publications, has done several book publications and has given over 200 international lectures. He has won several International awards and is promoter of 11 doctoral theses. He is reviewer of different international journals and councilor of the Netherlands in the European Association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
